INITIAL RANT

THAT'S IT!?! Awww... I was hoping the movie didn't end there. I didn't like the thought that the girl turned out to be a, um.., {pokpok} x__X. Just when I was enjoying the love story, they just have to spoil the fun. I wonder if that's really how the anime went. Because I missed the last part of Initial D First Stage when it was aired on TV. //grumble// I don't like that kind of love story for Jay Zhou’s character.

Demo ne, Jay's really so cute when he went into a [boku wa shock mode de-su], and then when he started crying, awww..., my heart just went out for him. It's like you want to just hold him and cuddle him in your arms... LOLz

Storywise, well, I think they really tried to stick with the manga/anime. I saw several similarities with the anime, and I was happy with it. But I don't think they really followed the whole storyline because I remember he went through many other challenges. But anyway, the movie did give me a bit of that Initial D "feel". The speed and action were not as fast as I expected, but then for a live movie version, I think it was already pretty cool. A bonus is a cast of bishies... LOL Edison Chen, Shawn Yue, and there's another cute guy as well... But, I just like Jay Zhou. Period. I think he fits into his character in a way because they both have blunted affect (blank faces, LOL). Major plus plus plus factor is that his song was used as BGM for the movie, which I guess was expected.

Overall, it wasn't so bad. I like the races and the sad ending. Call me crazy but I think some sad endings are beautiful, this one included. A downside to my DVD copy though is the terrible english subtitles! I'm almost embarrassed to let Joey or Gervie borrow this copy, because whoever made the english subs didn't really give it any justice! It's hidoi.. so cruel... to destroy a nice movie by putting bad subs! I had to watch it with the chinese subs, which were so much better. I have no problem watching movies with chinese subs, but I'm afraid my friends won't be able to appreciate the movie as it is because they would have to read such awful translations. I guess that serves me right for being too excited and not waiting for a better copy. ^o^
